Melody

by Robert Schumann

An early-intermediate piece from the Romantic period, in C major, and about 45 seconds to play.

About this edition

The opening piece of Robert Schumann's Album für die Jugend, Op. 68 (1848), a 43-piece collection he wrote for his own children's musical education -- "Melody" is deliberately the simplest entry, meant to be a student's literal first piece in the book.

A genuine first-lesson piece: practice singing the right-hand melody line while keeping the left-hand chords steady and unaccented -- the same RH-melody/LH-accompaniment balance every later piece in this catalog builds on.
